NE Iowa Lake/Dam Project Waiting for Grant to Proceed

MANCHESTER, Iowa (AP) — Officials in Delaware County are urging a state agency to promptly grant a permit that will allow for work on Lake Delhi in northeast Iowa.

County supervisors recently voted to send a letter of support to the state Department of Natural Resources. The agency must grant a building permit before construction of a spillway can begin. Public comments on the request will be taken until April 10.

The Telegraph Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1pGvuoJ ) supervisors have committed up to $2.9 million in county funds for the spillway project. They believe it will mitigate flooding in the region.

If the permit is approved, construction of the spillway and repair of the existing dam could begin this year.
