NE Iowa Driver Mistakes Pedals, Rolls Car in Street

A Dubuque man is recovering in the hospital after rolling his car on a city street.

The accident happened at about 1pm Tuesday on Clarke Drive in Dubuque.

88 year old Calvin Koecke lost control of his car; he apparently mistook the accelerator for the brake pedal. The car went into a yard, rolled onto it's top, then slid back into the street, still on it's top.

Koecke was extricated from the car and taken to a local hospital for treatment; he was wearing a seatbelt, which according to authorities, may have saved his life.

He is being charged with failure to maintain control.

The car was totaled, and there was some damage to the yard.
