Motorists, Snow Plows and Sheriff Recovering from Blizzard
Some highways are being opened, as snow plow crews continue to push the snow off Northeast Iowa roads.
Early Sunday afternoon, the Fayette County Sheriff warned that Highway 150, between Fayette and West Union, was blocked by snow drifts and stranded vehicles. The Iowa DOT had requested the highway to be closed to traffic.
By 4:30pm Sunday, the road had re-opened, but the sheriff warned that travel is still not recommended. Many Fayette County roads are still impassable.
Snow drifts and zero visibility caused multiple vehicle collissions in rural Fayette County; no serious injuries were reported. Winds were clocked at about 50 mph.
Iowa DOT snowplows and road crews are working to clear the routes as quickly and safely as possible.
On Fayette County Road W-33, an accident was reported, and at least one SUV was stranded in a snow drift.
