Here's another example of why Northeast Iowa motorists should never veer for deer.

Just before 6pm Monday (Nov. 2), Linn County authorities were summoned to a traffic accident on Covington Road south of Palo.

36 year old Amanda Vanatti from Shellsburg was driving north on Covington, when she swerved to avoid striking a deer. Vanatti then lost control of her vehicle, and struck a southbound vehicle, driven by 73 year old Mary Evens of Vinton.

Evens was taken to St. Luke's Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Vanatti was not hurt.

The accident was investigated by the Linn County Sheriff, with help from the fire departments from Palo and Hiawatha, and Area Ambulance Service.
