Motorist Causes Accident By Answering Phone
A Northeast Iowa motorist is being charged with causing an accident, after she tried to answer her cell phone while driving.
The accident happened just before 4pm Tuesday (Jan. 30), a mile west of Sumner on Highway 93.
22 year old Kendell Brown of Sumner was traveling west, when she attempted to answer an incoming phone call. Her car crossed the center line, colliding head-on with a car driven by 24 year old Amanda Ward, also of Sumner.
Ward was the only one injured; she was taken to Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner with unspecified injuries.
Brown has been charged with Driving on the Wrong Side of the Roadway.
The Iowa State Patrol investigated; they were assisted by the Bremer County Sheriff, Sumner Emergency Medical Services, and Sumner Fire Department.
