
Motorcyclist Struck by Car Doing a U-Turn
An eastern Iowa motorist is being charged with causing an accident involving his car and a motorcycle.
The accident happened just before 9am Saturday (Aug. 12) on Ely Road, near Ely in Linn County.
38 year old Barry Randall of Marion was driving south, when he did a u-turn into oncoming traffic, striking a northbound motorcycle operated by 23 year old Austin Schminkey of Cedar Rapids.
Schminkey was taken to University Hospitals in Iowa City, with non-life threatening injuries. According to the Linn County Sheriff, which continues to investigate the accident, Schminkey was wearing a helmet at the time.
Randall is being charged with making an unsafe turn.
