A Northeast Iowa motorcyclist is in the hospital, recovering after colliding with a deer in rural Fayette County.


Shortly after 11pm Tuesday (July 18), the Fayette County Sheriff was notified of a motorcycle accident involving a deer, south of Wadena on County Road W-51.

42 year old Jason Mangold of Arlington was driving southbound on his 1996 Harley Davidson, when a deer entered the roadway.

The deer struck the side of the motorcycle, causing it to tip over onto it's side.

Mangold was initially taken to the West Union hospital, then later flown by helicopter to a LaCrosse hospital for treatment.

His Harley sustained $3,000 in damage. The accident is still under investigation.
