Linn County authorities are asking for the public's help in finding a motorcyclist who led officers on a high speed chase, dumping his passenger.

Just before 7pm Wednesday (April 13) a Linn County deputy attempted to pull over a motorcycle on 1st Avenue, on the northeast side of Cedar Rapids.

The driver refused to stop, and, with a passenger on the back, took off at high speed.

Other deputies and Cedar Rapids Police officers joined in the pursuit.

During the chase, the motorcyclist nearly collided with a sheriff's patrol car on Richmond Road; then at the intersection at Center Point Road, the passenger was ejected off the back, as the driver nearly crashed while making the corner.

The passenger, identified as 24 year old Alyssa Powills of Cedar Rapids, sustained only minor injuries. She told officers that she did not know the driver's name.

About ten minutes after the chase began, authorities called off the pursuit.

The cyclist is described as a white male, wearing dark-colored clothing, and black full-face helmet. The bike was dark in color, racing style, with no license plate.

Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect is asked to contact the Linn County Sheriff. Charges are still pending.
