MHI Resident Arrested for Attempted Murder
Attempted murder and other charges have been filed against an Independence man, who is currently a patient at the Mental Health Institute.
44 year old Terrance Rooney Jr. has had a long list of offenses, including threatening several U.S. presidents.
Rooney is accused of attempting to suffocate another patient with a pillow last November, and assaulting an MHI staff member in February.
Rooney allegedly had other run-in's with staff, as well as mailing or making threats to Presidents Clinton, George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush, Governor Branstad, plus Senators Grassley and Harkin.
Authorities have transferred Rooney to the Buchanan County jail on charges of Attempted Murder, Assault on Persons Engaged in Certain Occupations, and First Degree Harassment.
He is being held on $500,000 bond.
