Mayor Shocks Town By Resigning at The End of a Meeting
In a move that stunned city officials, at the end of the latest city council meeting in McGregor, the mayor announced his resignation.
The McGregor City Council met in regular session last Wednesday, June 20th. At the very end of the 2 hour meeting, mayor Harold Brooks said he is stepping down. Brooks' last day would be June 22nd, last Friday.
Brooks had read a prepared statement to the council, explaining that he needed more time for his family and his full-time job. He also thanked the council and the city for the opportunity to serve as mayor of McGregor.
Brooks was re-elected to the post last fall; his term runs through December of 2019.
