Man Who Walked Away from Work Release Originally Charged in Fayette County

Authorities are asking for the public's help in locating an inmate, convicted of assault charges in Fayette County, who walked away from a work release facility over the weekend.

34 year old Gregory Allen Peck had been convicted in Fayette County of charges of Domestic Abuse Assault-3rd or Subsequent incidents, plus other unnamed charges in Fayette County. Peck was being held in the Ottumwa jail, and was admitted to work release on May 24 of this year.

On Saturday, Peck was scheduled to go from the Ottumwa work release facility, to a walk-in clinic, but he failed to show up at the medical facility.

In October of 2019, an incident happened at the Fayette County jail involving Peck. During the incident, a detention officer was injured.

Following an investigation into that incident, Peck was charged with Interference with a Corrections Official, which is a felony. The charge carries a penalty of a 5 year prison term.

The Iowa Department of Corrections is requesting that anyone with information on Peck's whereabouts, to contact local law enforcement.

Peck is described as a 34 year old black male, 5'11" tall, and weighs 263 lbs.

In other law enforcement action, a man Waterloo man has been sentenced to nearly 29 years in prison for importing meth from Mexico and distributing it in Waterloo.

Thirty-four-year-old Travis Werkmeister, nicknamed "Cheese" pleaded guilty in February to a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

During an investigation in 2018, undercover agents bought meth at Werkmeister's Waterloo home.

The next year, investigators tapped Wekmeister's phone; authorities were able to intercept thousands of calls and messages between Werkmeister and others in a drug-distribution organization, including it's head based in Mexico.

Werkmeister is one of 13 people arrested a year ago after a dozen locations in Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Roland and Marshalltown were searched.
