Man Who Threatening Police Chief, Indicted for Guns

A Northeast Iowa man, accused of threatening to kill a local law enforcement officer, has been indicted on federal charges for illegally possessing several firearms.

33 year old Joshua Sargent of Fayette has been indicted by a grand jury of 2 counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The indictment was handed down last Tuesday (Aug. 22) in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids.

Sargent pleaded not-guilty this last Tuesday (Aug. 29), and his trial was initially set for October.

Authorities turned up the weapons - two handguns and two shotguns- during a search of Sargent's home in Fayette.

At the time of the search, Sargent had been on probation for threatening the life of the Fayette Police Chief, during an arrest for a break-in. He had been convicted of the charge.
