Council Bluffs police officers say a routine traffic stop of a rental truck wound up in the seizure of 1,500 pounds of marijuana.

The traffic stop happened Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 80 in Council Bluffs. When the truck was stopped on suspicion of speeding according to officers. After a traffic citation was issued to the driver, a drug dog was used, and his search indicated the presence of drugs in the truck, officers said. A subsequent search turned up 61 cardboard boxes packed with marijuana, worth roughly $4.5 million on the street.

Tthe 35-year-old truck driver is Dmitry Borisov from Los Angeles, California. He was arrested and booked into the Pottawattamie County Jail on various drug charges.
