A Northeast Iowa resident had to be life-flighted to a regional hospital, after crashing his car in rural Winneshiek County.


The accident was reported to the County Sheriff's Office Wednesday (April 15). It happened on Old Stage Road in Decorah Township.

According to authorities, 22 year old Kohl Schnuelle of Decorah, was driving at a high rate of speed, and failed to negotiate a curve. The car left the road, went airborne off a steep embankment, and rolled several times while striking numerous trees.

Schnuelle was ejected from the car; he was taken by helicopter to Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse.  There was no word on his condition.

His 2010 BMW 328 had $7,000 in damage.

The accident is being investigated by the Winneshiek County Sheriff.
