Authorities have made an arrest in the death of a Waterloo teenager, whose body was found on a sidewalk in the city over the weekend.

Brandon Gordon, 22, of Evansdale, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after he turned himself in at the Waterloo police station, officials said. Gordon was booked into the Black Hawk County Jail on a charge of leaving the scene of a personal injury/fatal accident. His bond was set at $15,000.

On Sunday, Waterloo police were dispatched to the area of Vinton and Courtland Streets just before 8:30 AM on a report of an unresponsive male lying face down on the sidewalk. When officers arrived, they found the body of 16-year-old Tayshaun Jenkins.

According to Waterloo police, investigating officers spoke with witnesses and learned that Jenkins was likely the victim of a hit-and-run accident. Authorities said an autopsy was completed Monday, but the results were inconclusive pending further laboratory testing.

Jenkins' death remains under investigation.
