A Waukon man faces several charges after he allegedly tried to force his way into a police car, and also attempted to grab the officer's gun.

This incident happened on Friday (July 31), when the Waukon Police Department was summoned to remove an unwanted person from their home.

Arriving officers were told the subject had left, but an assault had occurred. The suspect was found a short time later and arrested.

While the first suspect was being interviewed by officers, 21 year old Blade Grotegut of Waukon approached the scene and tried to force his way into a marked patrol car. When police tried to stop him, Grotegut assaulted both of the officers and attempted to disarm one of them.

Grotegut was arrested and first taken to the local hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries; he was then transported to the Allamakee County jail, where he is being held on $21,500 cash bond.

Grotegut is being charged with Disarming a Police Officer, Threat of Terrorism, Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree, Assault of a Peace Officer Causing Bodily Injury, and Interference with Official Acts.

Waukon Police were assisted by the Allamakee County Sheriff, Iowa State Patrol, and Waukon Veterans Memorial Hospital Ambulance Service.
