Man Arrested For Depositing Bad Check, then Withdrawing Money
An Elgin man, already in jail for drug, assault and robbery charges, now faces additional charges for depositing a bad check and trying to withdraw money from an area bank.
On Tuesday (Oct. 1), the Fayette County Sheriff filed the added charges of Theft 3rd Degree, and Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card, on 34 year old Jaylani Whiteside. Whiteside is accused of using a debit card, which he was not authorized to use. He allegedly used the card to deposit a fraudulent check into a bank ATM, then withdrew cash.
Whiteside was being held in jail for an arrest last week on robbery, assault and illegal drugs. Whiteside was taken into custody after deputies were called Guppy's Gas Station in Elgin, to investigate a domestic assault. He was originally charged with Robbery 2nd degree, Domestic Assault causing injury, 2 counts of Possession of Controlled Substances, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving While License Suspended, and Interference with Official Acts.
Whiteside continues to be held in the Fayette County jail.
