Local Sheriff Very Busy with Weekend Accidents
Fayette County authorities were called out to several traffic accidents over the weekend.
Just after 12 noon on Saturday (Jan. 28), the sheriff responded to a vehicle rollover in a ditch on 20th Street near Willow Road, east of Fairbank. 52 year old Pamela Ortner of Jesup was attempting a turn when she lost control due to weather conditions. No one was injured, but Ortner's 2007 Toyota FJC was totaled.
About an hour later, the sheriff was called to an accident at the intersection of Highway 3 and "Q" Avenue, north of Oelwein. 18 year old Victoria Barnes of Marion tried to make a turn when she hit a patch of ice and slid into a ditch, where the vehicle rolled onto it's side. No one was injured, but her 2011 Dodge Caliber had $5,000 damage.
Numerous other accidents were reported Saturday and Sunday in Fayette County.
50 year old Lisa Duffy of rural Sumner lost control near the intersection of 130th and "Y" Avenue; the vehicle entered the ditch and tipped onto it's top. No one was injured, but the van sustained major damages.
19 year old Jacob Guenther of West Union lost control of his pickup at the intersection of 40th Street and Knight Road, east of Oelwein, at the "S" curves. The pickup rolled onto the passenger side in the ditch. No injuries were reported, but there was $8,000 damage to the pickup.
And Fayette County deputies were called to the area of 130th Street and "S" Avenue, northeast of Westgate, where a juvenile male driver lost control, drove into a ditch, and rolled onto it's top. There were some minor injuries. The juvenile was cited for operation without registration, and failure to provide proof of financial liability.
