The Buchanan County Sheriff has released information on a motorcycle accident that put an Illinois man in the hospital with very serious injuries.

At about 12:30pm last Monday (July 29th), the law enforcement center received numerous 911 reports of an accident on Highway 20 near Independence.

An investigation determined that a Harley Davidson, operated by Gregory Butler of South Beloit, Illinois, was eastbound on Highway 20, when the bike dropped off the road onto the graveled shoulder. As Butler attempted to correct the bike and drive it back onto the road, he lost control, and was ejected; according to the Buchanan County Sheriff, he sustained life-threatening injuries.

Butler was initially taken to the Independence hospital, then airlifted to a Wisconsin hospital. There was no word on his current condition.

The Buchanan County Sheriff was assisted by the Independence Fire Department, Area Ambulance Service, and Iowa Commercial Vehicle Enforcement.
