Oelwein Police Make Major Drug Seizures and Multiple Arrests in Two-Day Bust

Oelwein Police Execute Two Drug Busts in 24 Hours

The Oelwein Police Department had a very busy couple of days.

On the night of Sunday, March 9th at around 7:00 PM, Oelwein law enforcement officials executed a search warrant at the 100 Block of 7th Avenue NW, according to a press release.

During this investigation, illegal substances were discovered in the home and three individuals were taken into custody.

The following people were arrested and charged following this drug bust:

Lucas Doyle Bennett Charges

• Possession of Methamphetamine (3rd or more offense) – Class D Felony
• Possession of Marijuana (3rd or more offense) – Class D Felony
• Hosting a Gathering for Drug Use – Class D Felony
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Simple Misdemeanor
• Interference with Official Acts – Simple Misdemeanor
• Three Probation Violation Warrants

Nancy Jeannine Bradshaw Charges

• Possession of Methamphetamine (3rd or more offense) – Class D Felony
• Possession of Marijuana (3rd or more offense) – Class D Felony
• Hosting a Gathering for Drug Use – Class D Felony
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Simple Misdemeanor
• Delivery of Methamphetamine – Class C Felony

Jade Lynn Ann Nuehring Charges

• Possession of Methamphetamine (3rd or more offense) – Class D Felony
• Possession of Marijuana (3rd or more offense) – Class D Felony
• Hosting a Gathering for Drug Use – Class D Felony
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Simple Misdemeanor

These Oelwein residents were taken into custody at the Fayette County Jail and additional charges are pending, according to a social media statement from law enforcement.

Second Oelwein Drug Bust: Arrests on North Frederick Avenue

Less than 24 hours later, local law enforcement executed ANOTHER search warrant on the 400 Block of North Frederick Avenue. This one also resulted in multiple Oelwein residents being arrested and charged with drug related infractions.

The following individuals were taken into custody late on the night of Monday, March 10th.

• Child Endangerment – Dangerous Drugs – Aggravated Misdemeanor
• Possession of Controlled Substance 1st – Methamphetamine – Serious Misdemeanor
• Possession of Controlled Substance 1st – Marijuana – Serious Misdemeanor
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Simple Misdemeanor

Stacey Lynn Mullinex Charges

• Child Endangerment Involving Drugs – Aggravated Misdemeanor
• First-Offense Possession of Methamphetamine – Serious Misdemeanor
• First-Offense Possession of Marijuana – Serious Misdemeanor
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Simple Misdemeanor

Binzer Lopez Moore Charges

• Child Endangerment Involving Drugs – Aggravated Misdemeanor
• Second-Offense Possession of Methamphetamine – Aggravated Misdemeanor
• Second-Offense Possession of Marijuana – Aggravated Misdemeanor
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Simple Misdemeanor

There is no word on whether or not these instances are connected. However, both of these investigations involved methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

Methamphetamine Use in Iowa: A Growing Concern

Methamphetamine is a "powerful stimulant that is chemically similar to amphetamine," according to reports. It also seems to be one of the most commonly abused substances in the state.

What Is Methamphetamine?

This drug typically comes in the form of a "white, odorless, bitter-tasting crystalline powder that easily dissolves in water or alcohol," according to an Iowa Substance Abuse Brief.

In 2022, there were three meth labs that were found in Iowa, and 209 psychostimulant-related deaths or meth overdoses, according to the Iowa Department of Safety.

The Hawkeye State ranked 35th in the country when it came to illicit drug use in 2023.
