Cedar Rapids Native Cast On Cult Favorite New Show
One of the greatest talents to come out of Iowa is joining one of the hottest shows of the past year.
Late last year, a show about a girl's soccer team from New Jersey surviving a plane crash and resorting to savage means to survive, quickly captured global attention. The Showtime Network show, 'Yellowjackets' takes place in two different time periods; the 90s and present day.
Both timelines follow some of the survivors as they navigate the trauma of the crash, cult-like activities, and cannibals.
One timeline shows the girls navigating the terrors of this possibly supernatural situation in the 90s right after the crash, and the other follows a few of the survivors as adults.
It became an immediate hit with both viewers and critics. Securing seven Emmy nominations earlier this summer in its freshman season, the smash hit is set to get even better when it returns to television screens.
News came out on August 19th, that a new person would be joining the cult...I mean crew this season.
A whole slew of new characters are set to be on the second season of the award winning television program. Even fan favorite Van is set to have an adult counterpart in the present-day storyline.
However, inarguably the biggest news in casting is that Cedar Rapids native Elijah Wood will be joining 'Yellowjackets.'
The news came out through a variety of social media posts on Friday afternoon. Wood will be playing a character called " Citizen Detective, Walter."
While we don't know much about his character yet, we do know that he won't be series regular. According to Variety, "Wood will appear in a season long guest starring role as Walter, a dedicated Citizen Detective who will challenge Misty (Christina Ricci) in ways she won’t see coming."
Do I sense a possible romance between this guy and Christina Ricci's psychotic character? Maybe...
There is no set air date for the second season of 'Yellowjackets' just yet. However, officials from Showtime did confirm that they are working hard to make sure that the season two premiere date aligns closely with the first season's premiere date.
This means we might have to wait until early 2023 for our favorite soccer team turned possible cannibals to return.
