Escape of Convict from Waterloo Residential Facility Sparks Investigation

Local authorities are working hard to find an escaped convict.

On Friday, April 4th, 2025, a convict who was out for a work release program did not return to the Waterloo Residential Facility at his required time, according to reports.

Authorities are currently on the lookout for 32-year-old Jayvon Roosevelt Sanford II.

He failed to report back to the halfway house he was residing in after a furlough on Friday. Now, police are asking for your help.

Sanford II’s Conviction Details and Past Crimes

Sanford II was convicted of Willful Injury, Going Armed with Intent, and Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon in Black Hawk County, according to the Iowa Department of Corrections. He can serve up to five years of prison time for these charges.

Officials confirm that he had been staying the Waterloo Regional Facility since October of 2024.

He was serving time for an incident in the summer of 2017 where he used some sort of sharp object to attack two people at the old Voodoo Lounge in Cedar Falls. In a report from the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, the 32-year-old allegedly assaulted a man in Waterloo with a baseball bat.

Law enforcement describe him as a 5'7", 315-pound Black male.
