Cuba City Power Pull Returns: Two Nights of High Horsepower Action This Weekend
If you're looking for something fun to do this weekend, the Cuba City Power Pull is set to return to Splinter Park for two nights of truck and tractor pulling action that promises plenty of noise, horsepower, and family-friendly entertainment. And it's just in time for father's day!
The event gets underway Friday night, June 19th, at 7 PM with a lineup featuring local tractor and diesel truck pullers along with two classes from the East Central Iowa Pullers Association. Fans will get to see the 6,250/6,500-pound Light Limited Super Stock tractors and the 11,000-pound Too Hot to Farm tractors take to the track as part of an already packed evening of pulling action. We're talking black smoke and booming engines folks!
Ahead of this year's event, I had a chance to catch up with Darrell Clark, who serves as announcer for both the Cuba City Power Pull Weekend and the Tri-State Truck and Tractor Pullers. Clark says fans can expect a wide variety of competition over the two nights, ranging from local farm tractor classes to highly specialized pulling machines built specifically for the sport. He also noted that some of the vehicles expected on Saturday night are capable of producing as much as 5,000 horsepower, making for a show that is sure to get the attention of both longtime fans and first-time spectators. As part of the Tri-State Truck and Tractor Pullers season opener, competitors from Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and all across the Midwest region are expected to converge on Cuba City, bringing some of the region's top pulling talent together for a weekend packed with horsepower and competition.
Action continues Saturday night beginning at 6:30 PM as local truck pullers join Tri-State Truck and Tractor Pullers for what will be the organization's season opener. This year is especially significant as Tri-State celebrates its 25th anniversary season. Clark says competitors from at least four states are expected to make their way to Cuba City to help kick off the milestone year.
As someone who grew up on a farm, I am no stranger to a good tractor pull. There is something special about these events that goes beyond the competition itself. It's the community that comes together, the families lining the fence, the conversations between neighbors, and the excitement that builds every time a new machine hooks to the sled. Whether you've attended dozens of pulls or have never seen one before, it is an experience worth checking out.
One piece of advice from experience: bring ear plugs. These engines have serious power behind them, and you will appreciate the hearing protection after a night of roaring diesel engines and high-performance tractors. Trust me, if you're sitting close to the track, you'll feel the power as much as you'll hear it.
Of course, the weekend is about more than just what happens on the track. The Cuba City Lions Club will be serving up their popular cheese curds, the Town and Country Kids 4-H Club will offer burgers, brats, and pork sandwiches, and the Cuba City Fire Department will be keeping the beverages ice-cold and flowing throughout the weekend.
Admission is just $10, and children ages 8 and under get in free. Whether you're a longtime pulling fan, simply looking for a unique way to spend a summer evening, or a night all for dad, the Cuba City Power Pull Weekend offers plenty of action, great food, and small-town community spirit.
