Popular Iowa, Wisconsin Gas Station Chain Removing Hot Dog Roller Grills

A ubiquitous Midwest gas station chain is removing one of its trademark appliances from their locations in short order. What will replace them "remains to be seen," as the company put it.

Last week, Kwik Star — which has locations in Dubuque, Platteville, and throughout the Tri-States — announced they would be removing the roller grills from its stores. The roller grills are the go-to section of their convenience stores for customers looking for hot dogs, brats, roller bites, or Tornados.

The Future of Hot Dogs and More at Kwik Star:

Per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Kwik Star Spokesman Ben Leibl announced that despite the plan to remove roller grills from their stores, hot dogs and other items typically found on the rollers will still be available:

The food that was on the roller grills will be moving to our Hot Spot in the stores. These food items will be individually wrapped or packaged and will be more of a grab and go item moving forward - Kwik Star Spokesman Ben Leibl, per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Leibl added that the rollers once used at Kwik Star locations will be donated to "various organizations" in their markets. He also noted that people will have to "wait and see" what the company plans to do with the newly created free spaces in their stores.

Apropos of nothing, but I always thought it would be cool to own a hot dog roller; just to have it in my kitchen like any other appliance. It would make cooking hot dogs at home something of a novelty. Imagine hosting a party. It would be an instantly memorable little visual attraction while people wait for their hot dogs, brats, or sausages. The inquisitive part of my brain is itching to ask a local Kwik Star for their hot dog roller just to see what they would say.
