Perkins And The Hawkeyes Crush Indiana On The Road [WATCH]
Never underestimate the power of being slighted. Iowa guard Tony Perkins went home Tuesday night. The former Indianapolis prep was never recruited by Indiana. He showed the Hoosiers what a big mistake that was in a huge road victory for the Hawkeyes.
Iowa fans who were concerned over another stinker of a road performance rested easy Tuesday night. The Des Moines Register reports that Iowa never trailed against Indiana. Iowa shot 56% from the field and 57% from the three-point line. That's a pretty tough combo to beat. The Hawkeyes cruised to a 90-68 win in Bloomington. Tony Perkins was a whirling dervish Tuesday night. His movement without the ball had Indiana confused all night. Perkins just missed a triple-double with 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists.
The Register reports that four Iowa players were in double figures on the night. In addition to Perkins, Kris Murray was nearly unstoppable, scoring 26 points and adding 7 rebounds. Filip Rebraca added 16 points and 8 rebounds, while Payton Sandfort scored 16 for Iowa. The Hawkeyes hit 13 threes and outrebounded the Hoosiers by 12. That's a recipe for a road win in the Big Ten.
Iowa improves to 19-11 overall and 11-8 in Big Ten play. Suddenly, a late-season fade is turning into a team peaking at just the right time. Iowa will wrap up the regular season with a senior day matchup this Sunday against Nebraska. The Register reports a win keeps Iowa in position for a possible #4 seed heading into the Big Ten Tournament, which would mean a double bye for the Hawkeyes.
