My Visits to Wickiup Hill Learning Center in Toddville IA [Gallery]

Do you have a hobby or hobbies? I have many but the one that pops its head up most is photography.  Love it all.  I like taking photos, helping someone take pictures, looking at old and new gear, or even looking at shots others have taken, and many times wanting to copy what the artist has done.

Recommendations requested for good photography locations

When I moved back to Cedar Rapids I was no longer in my stomping grounds.  I had been living in Illinois for 20 years and during that time I found lots of spots to take some decent shots.  Most of the time as the crowd was going in, I was headed out.  Timing is everything, saddled with a bunch of luck.  How could you go wrong? Just get the timing exact and have luck on your side, easy peasy.  I asked for some recommendations for new spots in and around Cedar Rapids and Iowa.  I'll drive pretty far for some good photos.  I got lots of great ideas.

It was right around the corner

When we moved back to Iowa we were staying in Toddville.  One of the Facebook recommendations was for The Wickiup Hill Learning Center.  I drove by it every day, to get to work, and after a couple weeks of that, I finally stopped in to Wickiup Hill Learning Center.  I was once a very bad student so when I see learning, ooh, it makes me think twice but I'm glad I went. As soon as we turned onto the street, which is residential, two of what appeared to be Guinea Hens popped out, ran around, and disappeared as quickly as they appeared.  I had no idea what they were and had never seen anything like it before.  We were off to a good start.  I had my camera at the ready, which I normally don't, and caught the hens which you can see below.  On our first go through we were greeted by a turtle and blessed by a cardinal.

What does Wickiup Hill Offer?

The Wickiup Hill Learning Center is great for outdoor adventure with features like bird viewing, woodland and savanna habitats, interpretive trails, a Wetland boardwalk, Native American history, cross-country skiing trails plus an educational nature center with a hallway of habitats and exhibits.  Wickiup Hill Learning Center is also a raptor rehabilitation facility and has The Raptor Up Close program where you get an up-close view and in-depth understanding of amazing birds.  You are also able to take a virtual tour here.
