Kurt Warner To Attend Jersey Retirement Ceremony
The Des Moines Register reports that UNI Panther great Kurt Warner will be at the UNI home opener this Saturday against Drake, where his #13 jersey will be retired. A special pre-game ceremony will take place at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls at 12:30 p.m on Saturday, September 12th. The Register reports that Warner will be honored with a banner bearing his name and number.
A Football Story For The Ages!
Kurt Warner's football journey is one for the ages. The Cedar Rapids Regis alum threw for over 2700 yards and 17 touchdowns his senior year with UNI, according to the Register. When he went undrafted, he stocked shelves at the Cedar Falls Hy-Vee before finally landing with the Iowa Barnstormers of the Arena Football League.
After landing with the St. Louis Rams, an injury to starting quarterback Trent Green put Warner in the starting lineup in 1999. The Register reports that the rest is history. Warner tossed 41 touchdown passes and guided the Rams to a Super Bowl title.
The Register reports that Warner would earn four Pro Bowl selections and win the NFL MVP in 1999 and 2001. He was selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2017.
