Rising Country Singer From Iowa to Release Emotional New Song About Addiction
Iowa's own KC Bruner is making waves in country music, and her upcoming release may be her biggest yet!
Who is KC Bruner?
21-year-old KC Bruner was born and raised in Swisher, Iowa, and developed a love of music early thanks to her dad Jeff Bruner, a longtime local musician. According to a recent article from Country Swag, KC spent lots of time "in her room writing and learning to play guitar," but never really performed publicly... aside from joining her dad for the occasional song during his gigs. She considered music more of a hobby than a possible career, which is why she followed in her mom's footsteps and became a hairstylist after graduating high school. But, even though she was focused on her new career, KC never stopped making music. That's when the then-19-year-old was presented with an opportunity to move to Nashville, and she took it.
KC relocated to Nashville with her sister, her sister's boyfriend, and the boyfriend's two brothers. She continued to pursue her career as a hairstylist, but wrote music on the side with the three brothers, who were also musicians. Then, out of nowhere, KC got really sick, and that illness is what helped change the trajectory of her life.
According to the Cedar Rapids Gazette, KC was diagnosed with a heart condition called pericarditis, which made her reconsider what she wanted out of life. She told Country Swag:
"It definitely put me in a position where I was like, 'what do I want to do the rest of my life.' […] it was really hard on me, and it made me super grateful for how you wake up everyday and be able to sing or talk to your friends, and that’s when I started posting..."
It wasn't long until KC was getting a lot of attention on TikTok, where she now has more than 24,000 followers. Her most popular video has 1.6 million views!
Back in November, KC returned to her home state to play a couple of shows at the Olympic South Side Theater in Cedar Rapids, both of which SOLD OUT! Ahead of those shows, we had the opportunity to interview KC and have her sing live in the studio, and she was AMAZING.
"Bible and the Bottle"
KC has been teasing a new single on social media called "Bible and the Bottle," and she says it's the "most honest and vulnerable song" that she's ever made. A post on her Instagram reads:
"I first wrote Bible and the Bottle about the pain of watching someone you love struggle with an addiction. But over time, it’s become a song about choices - and a reminder of how those choices, whether it’s ones that save us or ones that pull us under, can lead our lives down very different paths."
"Bible and the Bottle" is due out this Friday, January 23rd, but in the meantime, you can check out KC's other songs, including fan favorite "Country Magic Spell," on all major streaming platforms.
