Herky on Parade is back in 2024! The iconic Iowa Hawkeye mascot is featured in 100 new statues that were unveiled across Johnson County on Wednesday.

The Daily Iowan reports that the new Herky statues mark the third generation of the project. The original event happened in 2004 and again on the 10th anniversary in 2014. Those statues can still be found in Iowa City and beyond featuring Herky standing with his hands in fists against his hips.

According to the Daily Iowan, The U of I announced the latest version of Herkys in 2023. They originally planned for 75 statues in honor of Herky's 75th birthday. But demand for statues was so high that the project expanded to 100 new statues. According to a press release, people or businesses could either sponsor the statue or sponsor and purchase a statue. The other statues will be auctioned off in September.

So what is new with Herky during this year's parade? The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports this year's statues include a 'GOAT' series including one in a 22 jersey called 'From the Logo'. Another features Hawkeye wrestling great Spencer Lee as Jedi Master Yoda. The statues will also reach a wider audience across Johnson County with Herkys found in Iowa City, Coralville, North Liberty, Solon, and Tiffin. There will also be one outside of The Eastern Iowa Airport.
