First Responders Rescue Dog from the Banks of the Iowa River [VIDEO]

A dog that officials have nicknamed 'Banks' is safe thanks to the efforts of the Marshalltown Fire Department and first responders.

Dog Rescued Along the Iowa River

KCCI reports that Banks, a Great Pyrenees, became stranded and stuck in the mud on the banks of the Iowa River just outside of Marshalltown on Wednesday. Fire officials tried to reach him on foot, but eventually had to rescue the dog with a boat courtesy of the Marshalltown Fire Department. Banks was freed from the mud and turned over to the Marshalltown Animal Rescue League, according to KCCI.

Despite the Cold Weather, Banks was OK

Veternarians check out Banks as soon as he arrived at the Marshalltown Animal Rescue League, and he was given a clean bill of health! KCCI reports that his thick hair and the fact that he was stuck in the mud, and not the freezing water, made the outcome a positive one.

How Did the Dog Get Near the River?

KCCI reports that it is still unclear how Banks got trapped along the river. No information has been released about his possible owners. He is currently being cared for by the Marshalltown Animal Rescue League. But his story might not end there!

KCCI reports that Banks made a big impression on everyone who helped rescue him. In fact, one of the firefighters who was involved in the rescue has filed paperwork to adopt Banks. We all hope that Banks gets the home he deserves!
