According to a news release, animal control officers from Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control are investigating what they call the suspicious deaths of three dogs.

The press release states that on Monday, April 15th, and Tuesday, April 16th, reports were made to Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control by walkers on the Sac and Fox Trail in Cedar Rapids, between Cole Street and Otis Road. Three deceased pit bull puppies were found near the trail. One was found on Monday, and two more were located on Tuesday. After an initial investigation, it appears all three puppies were related, possibly from the same litter. It also appears all three died after being abused.

Animal control officers stated in the press release that they believe that all local trails remain safe to use and that properly leashed pets are NOT at risk.

The press release states that investigators are asking for the public's help in finding the people responsible for the animal's well-being and who may also be responsible for the abuse. If dogs disappeared from your neighborhood recently, or if you notice dogs missing from their normal home, call Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control at 319-286-5993. You may also call the Cedar Rapids Police Department non-emergency line at 319-286-5491.
