Iowa’s Caitlin Clark Invited to U.S. Olympic Basketball Camp
It appears that Iowa basketball star Caitlin Clark will get a shot at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
ESPN is reporting that USA Basketball has invited Clark to take part in the Olympic training camp in Cleveland on April 3rd through the 5th. Clark is hoping to make travel plans to Cleveland anyway as the women's Final Four will be held April 5th through the 7th. It's a good thing Caitlin loves basketball because she could be playing a whole lot of it in early April!
The Iowa Hawkeyes are the #1 seed in the Albany Region and will take on #5 seed Colorado on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. on ABC. Iowa is seeking its second straight trip to the Final Four.
If Iowa falls short of its goal of the Final Four, Clark will be able to participate in the Olympic camp. ESPN reports that Caitlin is no stranger to international play. She has earned three gold medals with USA Basketball junior national teams, most recently with the USA Women's U19 National Team in 2021.
Clark is the only collegiate player to be invited to the Olympic camp. While she could end up making Team USA and play either 5 on 5 or 3 on 3 in the Paris games, the depth and talent at the guard position in women's basketball might not work in Clark's favor.
Team USA is going for its 8th straight gold in 5 on 5 and two in a row after winning the inaugural gold in 3 on 3 in Tokyo in 2021, according to ESPN.
