About Bread Worth Bakery

Bread Worthy Bakery is owned by Colleen Brennan and Erick Dole, two residents of Iowa City. According to the bakery's website:

"After meeting back in 2012 at pastry school in Florence, Italy and then going on to travel and work around the world and US to perfect their craft, the pair moved back to Erick’s hometown of Iowa City in 2020 to finally start up the bakery business that Colleen has always dreamed of."

The bakery got its start at Iowa City Farmers Market back in May of 2021, becoming well known for its croissants, pecan rolls, and cinnamon rolls. After nearly five years of success at the market, the couple announced in February that they would be opening their very own storefront in Iowa City's Northside Neighborhood this summer. That time has finally arrived!

Bakery Information

Although Bread Worthy Bakery had its official grand opening on July 4th, its still going to take some time before things are running at 100%. For example, the bakery does not have drink services yet, but they are "hoping to narrow down a coffee this week and start testing and then train soon." They also don't have their permanent hours decided and are looking to hire more employees, both part-time and full-time. The Facebook post explains:

"My goal first and foremost is to be able to bring you all what we've been doing for years into a setting where you can stop by multiple days a week and specials are more than just a day long. And once we have that set, we are looking at starting to expand our menu to offer more savory baked goods and pastries that we've been working on in the background. Bread is something I hope will come, but our lease requires us to be open 4 days a week and I need to make sure we have the ability to grow to 4 days with our current team and equipment first!"

The next time you'll be able to visit Bread Worthy Bakery's new storefront will be this Saturday, July 11th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. They will also be back at the Iowa City Farmers Market from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., and will continue to offer baked goods at local coffee shop DAYDRINK on weekends.
