The rising waters of the Mississippi has prompted the closure of a major Northeast Iowa highway, that connects Iowa with Wisconsin.

Authorities have decided to shut down Highway 82, from Highway 35 in Wisconsin, to the city of Lansing, which includes the Mississippi River bridge leading into Lansing.
Residents use the area to fish or dock and launch their boats.

The Crawford County Wisconsin Sheriff notes that the rising waters may possibly jeopardize the integrity of sections of the road. This portion of the highway will be closed until the Crawford County Highway Department determines that it is safe to use.

The sheriff says the highway will stay closed until at least Tuesday (April 30th).

The sheriff warns motorists to plan an alternate route.

The nearest Mississippi River crossings are in Prairie du Chien and Marquette 30 miles to the south, and LaCrosse and LaCrescent, which is 30 miles to the north.
