Iowa linebacker Jack Campbell is the leader of the Hawkeye defense. He leaves everything on the field, every game. He also excels in the classroom too. Campbell was awarded the highest honor that a scholar-athlete can receive in football on Tuesday night.

KWWL reports that Campbell was awarded the 2022 William V. Campbell Trophy at the National Football Foundation Annual Awards Dinner in Las Vegas. The Campbell Trophy recognizes the best in the nation in combined academic success, performance on the football field, and leadership. Campbell will receive a $25,000 postgraduate scholarship for winning the award.

Campbell has led Iowa on the field all season long. KWWL reports that the linebacker has 118 tackles, which is 2nd in the Big Ten and 13th nationally. He also had two interceptions, one recovered fumble, and one forced fumble. Campbell has already been named the Nagurski-Wooden Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and the Butkus-Fitzgerald Big Ten Linebacker of the Year. He is also one of five finalists for the Butkus Award, given annually to college football's top linebacker. He was also named a semifinalist for the Bednarik and Rotary Lombardi Awards.

But Campbell also brings it in the classroom. KWWL reports that Campbell will earn his degree this December and carries a GPA of 3.49. He is majoring in leadership with a minor in sports and recreation management. He has earned Dean's List honors three times and is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. Campbell is the first Hawkeye to win the William V. Campbell trophy.
