Iowa’s Game Against Michigan State Postponed

You have to hand it to the University of Iowa and their sports programs. They have rarely been affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The football team played all their regular season games with incident, only to see their bowl game called off due to an outbreak on the Missouri football team. The men's basketball team is flying high and ranked 5th in the nation this week. But for the first time, they will have a game postponed due to COVID-19.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that Iowa's scheduled game against Michigan State tonight has been postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak at Michigan State. A makeup date for tonight's game has not yet been announced. Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo announced on Wednesday afternoon that players Mady Sissoko and Steven Izzo had both tested positive for COVID-19. The two players are roommates. Sissoko is a freshman center, and Izzo, the son of the head coach, is a sophomore guard.

The Gazette reports that the two players tested positive four days ago. An additional positive test had been received by the program on Wednesday afternoon. Michigan State coach Tom Izzo said, "I'm really disappointed, but this just goes to prove it can affect anyone." Izzo stated that he was proud of how his team had followed safety protocols.

Iowa's next game will be this Sunday on the road at Northwestern. The Gazette reports that game was officially moved up one day by the Big Ten Conference on Wednesday.
