The Iowa Department of Public Health announced 655 new cases of the coronavirus Thursday morning, along with 12 additional deaths.

To date, COVID-19 has claimed 231 lives in Iowa. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Iowa rose to 11,059 with the recent positive tests.

At her daily press briefing, Gov. Kim Reynolds said a change in the reporting system has expanded the numbers somewhat. The state is now reporting cases between midnight and 11:59 PM the previous day, instead of counting the numbers from noon to noon one day to the next.

The latest state figures show 414 people are currently hospitalized with symptoms of the coronavirus in Iowa, including 45 in Black Hawk County.

Statewide, 4,266 people who have tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered. A total of 66,427 people have been tested.
