Officials at Iowa State University say Athletic Director Jamie Pollard is resting today following successful open heart surgery Tuesday night (March 10).

According to the latest statement released by the school, Pollard had the operation at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Dr. Christopher Komanapalli, a cardio and vascular surgeon from Iowa Clinic, performed the triple-bypass procedure.

Pollard is currently in intensive care at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, where he is expected to remain hospitalized for the next several days.

In the statement released today, Pollard's family offered its gratitude to the many people who have prayed for him and sent supportive messages. They also expressed their thanks to the medical teams who have been treating him.

Pollard, 50, suffered a heart attack Monday afternoon while watching his daughters compete at a track meet in Cedar Falls. He was initially taken to Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo for treatment, then transferred to Des Moines.

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard underwent successful open heart bypass surgery Tuesday night at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Dr. Christopher Komanapalli, a cardio and vascular surgeon from Iowa Clinic, performed the triple bypass procedure.

Pollard is resting today in the Intensive Care Unit and is expected to remain hospitalized at Iowa Methodist Medical Center for several days.

The Pollard family wishes to offer its gratitude to the many individuals who prayed for Jamie and sent supportive messages as well as the outstanding medical teams which have been treating him.
