Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst: “My staff and I are safe.”
Iowa Senator Joni Ernst has announced on social media that her and her staff are safe during the current protest happening at the Capital Building, and condemns the protestors.
On Wednesday, protestors that are largely President Trump supporters stormed the Capitol Building during a joint congressional meeting to count and solidify the electoral college votes from the November election.
Iowa Senator Joni Ernst wrote in a social media post that her and her staff are safe. Ernst also condemned what is happening with the protests by saying,
"What’s happening at the Capitol right now is not peaceful nor a protest. It’s anarchy, & a betrayal of the American ideals we all hold dear."
In Sen. Ernst wrote in her entire post,
"I served in uniform to defend the right to peaceful protest.What’s happening at the Capitol right now is not peaceful nor a protest. It’s anarchy, & a betrayal of the American ideals we all hold dear.My staff and I are safe.Thanks to Capitol Police for your selfless work."
There has been no official statement from any other senators or representatives from Iowa or Illinois.
