North Liberty Man Ran 48 Miles in 48 Hours for a Good Cause
Most of us have a hard time running one mile, which is why it's crazy to think that one Iowa man just ran 48.
Iowa News Now reports that Mario Minneart ran 48 miles over the weekend all for a good cause. This may seem extreme, but it's not that crazy for Mario. The report states that Minneart runs a lot and that about 10 years ago he started doing sprint triathlons. This time Mario is putting in the miles for mental illness. He's raising money and awareness for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Linn County.
Mario took the "4x4x48 Goggins" approach to the run, which is "four miles every four hours for 48 hours." That's a challenge for sure.
You would think that no one would in their right mind would try to keep up with him, but Mario's personality is so infectious that it truly brings people together. Family, friends, and coworkers have joined him on little stretches throughout his runs.
Iowa News Now reports that Mario says "when you overcome challenges, it makes you a better person and it carries over into every area of your life.” He wants people to know that "it's ok not to be ok" and that "doing hard things with people you love energizes you."
This is certainly inspiring, and a good reminder that we could all challenge ourselves more.
