Jerry Reed once sang, "East bound and down, loaded up and truckin', Oh, we gonna do what they say can't be done, We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there, I'm east bound, just watch ol' Bandit run". If you're too young to remember, the song was featured in the classic movie called "Smokey & the Bandit". The movie came out in 1977 during the height of trucker-mania, when truck drivers were romanticized as modern-day cowboys and outlaws.

Built in 1964, and sitting on 220-acres of land, the Iowa-80 Truckstop is the world's largest, without a doubt. Sitting along Interstate 80 off exit 284 in Walcott, it's four times larger than an average truckstop. It's basically it's own city...with over 5,000 visitors daily, that's about 1.8 million people a year. Featuring 10 restaurant choices, a convenience store, gift store, and trucking accessories store. They have the usual stuff like showers and a TV room, but they go above and beyond with a dentist, barber, chiropractor, movie theater, and workout room. It truly is, the trucker's "home away from home".

While you're there, take a few minutes to visit the museum featuring trucking memorabilia. Each July, the Iowa 80 Truckstop plays host to the "Walcott Truckers Jamboree", of course, like everything else this summer, it was force to be held virtually on-line. But they're already planning for July of 2021. It's been estimated that 45,000 people have attended this event in past years. Scroll down for a virtual tour of everything the World's Largest Truckstop has to offer for truckers, and just regular folks on the road, you'll be amazed.
