[UPDATED APRIL 30 1:30 PM] The victim in a Wednesday evening shooting in Iowa City has been identified as 31-year-old Tommy Curry of Iowa City. A preliminary autopsy by the Johnson County Medical Examiner's Office has determined Curry died of gunshot wounds. His death had been ruled a homicide.

 

[ORIGINAL STORY] The Iowa City Police Department (ICPD) is investigating a suspicious death Wednesday night on the city's southeast side.

According to a media release from the ICPD, officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 2400 block of Lakeside Drive just after 8 p.m. Wednesday night, April 28. When they arrived on the scene, officers found an adult male that had suffered gunshot wounds. He was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, where he was later pronounced dead.

The man has been identified by the Johnson County Medical Examiner's Office, but his identity has not yet been released, as his family is notified. An autopsy is being performed by the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Iowa City Police Department is awaiting the results of the autopsy and continues to investigate the case, along with the Johnson County Medical Examiner's Office, and Johnson County Attorney’s Office.
