Iowa Bar is Named One of the Best Beer Bars in the World

When it comes to beer, nobody in Iowa does it better than El Bait Shop! According to a new article from the Des Moines Register, the Des Moines bar has been named one of the best beer bars in the entire world!

The publication Craft Beer & Brewing recently released the results of their annual Readers’ Choice poll, and one of the categories they looked at was beer bars. There were 20 bars across the globe that were recognized for their selection of beer, and one of them was El Bait Shop in Des Moines! It was ranked number 14 on the list.

Located at 200 SW 2nd Street, El Bait Shop is known for their massive selection of beer. They have 262 beers on tap, plus over 70 more in bottles and cans! They can't even get them all in one photo...

In addition to drinks, El Bait Shop also offers lots of food options. The menu includes broasted chicken, bacon-wrapped little smokies, deviled eggs, salad, pork tenderloins, burgers, chicken pot pie, tacos, meatloaf, mac & cheese, and much more. You can check out the full menu online HERE.

Beer & Brewing also asked readers about their favorite breweries across the U.S. for 2023. Only one Iowa brewery made the list, and that was Toppling Goliath in Decorah! It ranked 8th in the 'Midsize Regional' category.

Toppling Goliath was founded in 2009 by Clark and Barbara Lewey after they found success doing home brewing. Since then, the brewery has become incredibly popular among beer-lovers across the country. The website reads:

"In less than a decade, Toppling Goliath has become world-renowned for IPAs and barrel-aged stouts. We now distribute in 30 states and create more than 40 beers that rotate throughout the year."
