Inmate Gets More Charges For Damaging His Jail Cell

A Cresco man, incarcerated in Decorah, faces additional charges after he caused damages to his jail cell Monday (June 4).

31 year old Samuel Melver is accused of attempting to flush his jail uniform down the toilet Monday evening.

He also allegedly urinated all over his cell, including his mattress and pillow, which were destroyed. Melver is being charged with 5th degree criminal mischief.

Melver had been in jail for a June 1st incident in which he is accused of assaulting his wife in Cresco, grabbing her hair and dragging her to their front lawn. Melver also allegedly tried to push her head into the side of a semi. For that incident, Melver is charged with domestic abuse assault.

Melver was being held in the Winneshiek County jail in Decorah, for Howard County authorities.
