Independence police have arrested a local woman on multiple charges for allegedly breaking into an elementary school and causing extensive damage.

According to authorities, no one was found inside West Elementary School Saturday evening when officers arrived to investigate a citizen's report of an open door to the building. Police say they reviewed the school's surveillance system and determined that 21-year-old Autumn Meiborg of Independence was the only one person to cause the damage.

Around 11:30 PM, police located Meiborg at a home in the 900 block of 6th Ave. SW and took her into custody.

Meiborg was booked into the Buchanan County Jail on multiple charges. They include: first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief and trespass.

Bond was set at $30,000.
