Improvements Planned For Highway 3 Through Waverly

Proposed improvements to Iowa Highway 3 through Waverly will be discussed at a public information meeting Monday night (April 25, 2016).

The Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) is planning to completely reconstruct Bremer Ave. (Iowa 3), starting in 2017. The street improvements would occur within the city limits of Waverly between 20th St. NW/Heritage Way and 8th St. NE.

According to IDOT officials, the project will impact 28 city blocks and take two construction seasons to complete. Traffic would be maintained while the road work progresses. The project will include replacing 75-year-old water main and water lines through the downtown corridor.

IDOT officials and Waverly city staff will be at Monday's meeting to talk about the upcoming project. The public is invited to attend anytime between 5 and 7 p.m. at Waverly City Hall, 200 1st St. NE. The meeting will be conducted utilizing an open forum format. Brief project summaries are scheduled to be presented at 5 and 6 p.m.

Meanwhile, two other construction projects -- both unrelated to the planned work in 2017 -- are currently underway on Waverly's main thoroughfare. A four-week waterline replacement project is affecting the traffic flow on the city's east side near the Cedar River. On the west side of town, a one-block section of Iowa Highway 3 (Bremer Ave.) is closed where workers are reconstructing a box culvert over Dry Run Creek.
