Work to replace utilities and pavement on northbound U.S. Highway 63 in downtown Waterloo requires a traffic shift, starting Monday (July 2, 2018).

The Iowa Department of Transportation is closing Jefferson St. on both sides of W. 1st St., which is northbound U.S. 63. Instead of using Jefferson St. to access Mullan Ave., motorists will now be directed one block north to Commercial St.

Northbound U.S. 63 traffic will then go one block west on Commercial. From there, the detour route will turn north on Mullan Ave., which is also southbound U.S. 63.

Both U.S. 63 northbound and southbound traffic will continue to use the southbound lanes (Mullan Ave.) in a head-to-head traffic pattern north of Commercial St. This stage of the project is expected to continue until the end of July, IDOT officials said.
