A Northeast Iowa health facility has announced an expansion, making room for more specialists to meet the need of area patients and residents.

MercyOne Medical Center in Oelwein, has broken ground on a new space to be located just north of the Oelwein Medical Center, on the first floor.

Some of the services expected to be covered are Heart Care, Urology Care, General Surgery, Kidney Care, Behavioral Health Care, Occupational Health, and midwives.

The addition will be about 2,000 square feet, housing seven additional exam rooms, offices, nurse station and more.

The expansion is estimated to cost $870,000, with about half of the funding provided by community donations. Work has already started, with the completion targeted for next summer.
