Known for their made from scratch biscuits and their thick burgers, Hardee's has more than 1,800 locations across the world. But that number is slowly dwindling away.

Hardee's Is Closing Doors Across America

The brick-and-mortar landscape for restaurants has not had a good run for the past four years or so. A lot started with the pandemic, when most restaurants had to close down or cease in-store dining.

Some restaurants have fully recovered, and some have struggled to maintain their healthy footprint. Hardee's is one of those.

These closings started in 2023, with 39 closings that year. At least eight states across America lost Hardee's restaurants, and some cities lost multiple locations.

Now, in 2024, the closures are still going.

Where Has Hardee's Been Closing Locations?

So far this year, in Central Illinois, Hardee's has closed restaurants in Champaign, Chatham, Monticello, Springfield, and Virden.

In Southern Illinois, Hardee's closed locations in Carterville and Du Quoin, as reported by KFVS12.

In addition to these Illinois restaurants, Hardee's also closed one restaurant in Spring Hill, Tenn., and one in Missouri.

Why Has Hardee's Been Closing Locations?

While Hardee's has not revealed the reason behind the closures, there are a few reasons that could have factored in. According to FinanceBuzz.com, a racy ad campaign a few years ago ignited a backlash.

Also, news reports suggest that many customers are dissatisfied with the chain’s drive-thru service. And like many other restaurants and retailers, Hardee’s faces rising costs.
