DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — The city of Dubuque and the University of Iowa are set to use a federal grant to try to improve the city's air quality through education, outreach and monitoring of sources that contribute to local pollution.

The university received a $91,000 grant from the Environmental Protection Agency this year to help Dubuque raise awareness about the causes and health effects of air pollution.

The university will use the grant to purchase monitors and train businesses, nonprofits, colleges and high schools on how to use them and track Dubuque's air quality.

University professor Charles Stanier and Dubuque Sustainability Coordinator Cori Burbach say they hope that training sessions and workshops slated for early next year will spur residents to take action to curb air pollution.
